I am a digital designer based in San Francisco who values my deep process as much as the final product.

I think that a great product starts with a methodical and well planned approach to design.

Wine Explorer

Wine Explorer is an iPhone app for finding wines at Trader Joe's. The user can search for a wine based on their specific criteria and view a wine's profile which includes background information, reviews, food pairing, and similar wines. Scanning a wine label and viewing most popular wines are also features.

Wine Explorer is my graduate thesis project for the Academy of Art's Web Design & New Media Program. All students must come up with a product idea and take it through all the necessary steps (planning, user experience and testing, design, development). My project planning began in the Fall of 2011 and is expected to be completed during the Summer of 2013.

My current plan is to develop the application using HTML/CSS and Jquery mobile and possibly bundling it using PhoneGap.

A blog is maintained to keep track of the project's current status.

Mission Apartments

The assignment for this school project was to create an innovative website for a fictional apartment complex. We were to focus on appealing to the target audience in an original way.
I chose to create a modular responsive website that randomly loads photos of the complex. My target audience was young, hip, and tech saavy. The website is never the same for two people and the information given is minimal; instead focusing on visuals. Images come to full opacity when rolled over offering a fun interaction.

Where's the Farmers' Market?

Where's the Farmers' Market is a website for finding open farmers' markets in San Francisco as well as markets in different neighborhoods. The website was a personal challenge to myself to come up with an idea and execute it as quickly as possible. I also wanted to learn Wordpress and the basics of responsive design.

Favrite

Favrite is an application for sending coupons for favors or experiences to your significant other, friends, family or coworkers. Stock coupons are provided as well as templates for custom creations. The coupons can be sent in-app, via email, posted to Facebook, or by text message.

This application was designed after seeing the many "coupon books for lovers" at a bookstore and expanding on the idea. A strong user experience with simple visuals was also the goal.

Spencer for Hire

I created this website to promote myself when applying for internships as well as work on responsive design fundamentals. The name for the site came from 'Spenser for Hire', an old TV show that (older) people like referencing to me.

I also make a lot of non-web things.

I like to think I have lived a pretty interesting life.

Born in Saudi Arabia, moved to Switzerland, followed by North Carolina before eventually attending the University of South Carolina to earn my BA in Media Arts with a minor in Fashion. I originally went to school intending to become a marine biologist; this idea went out the window after failing freshman chemistry. After randomly being placed in a computer arts class I realized how much I love building and creating on the computer and decided it was the path I would follow.

After finishing my undergraduate degree I knew I wasn't finished learning and wanted to go to graduate school. I chose the Academy of Art because I knew I wanted to go to San Francisco and I was impressed by the former student's portfolios. Coming to San Francisco was a big change from South Carolina (no surprise) but I couldn't be happier. I have had the opportunity to take classes with amazing instructors and make great connections.
